Public Works » Waste Water Treatment PLant« All Departments

The City of Dunn Black River Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) is operated by plant superintendent, Mrs. Donrie Dukes. Mrs. Dukes can be reached at (910) 892-2935.

Our plant has 4 shift operators, 1 relief operator, 1 senior operator, 1 lift station technician, 1 lab technican, 1 plant superintendent..

Our plant is rated at 3.75 million gallons per day treatment capacity. The average flow which is treated is 2.5 million gallons per day.

The City of Dunn treats wastewater through a biological process called extended aeration which utilizes activated sludge to breakdown organics found in wastewater. The treated wastewater is chlorinated for disinfection and de-chlorinated to prevent toxitity issues before discharge in the Cape Fear River. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The City has 7 Wastewater Lift stations which pump wastewater though force mains into gravity sewer lines which transport the wastewater to the plant for treatment.

The Waste Water Treatment Plant has a fully certified lab that tests the water being discharged to ensure our plant remains environmentally friendly.

We invite anyone who wishes to see how their wastewater is processed to come by our facility. A reservation can be made for guided tours for school or civic groups by calling us at 910-892-2935.
