Public Works » Waste Water Treatment PLant« All Departments

The City of Dunn Black River Waste Water Treatment Plant is located at 580 J.W. Edwards Lane in Dunn NC. The plant is operated by plant superintendent, Mrs. Donrie Dukes. Mrs. Dukes can be reached at (910) 892-2935.

Our plant has 4 shift operators, 1 relief operator, 1 maintenance operator, 1 lift station maintenance operator, 1 lab technican, 1 chemist and 1 plant ORC(operator in responsible charge).

Our plant operates a 3.75 million gallons per day capacity. The average flow which is treated is 2 million gallons per day.

The City of Dunn's WWTP process of treating wastewater is through activated sludge (which is an biological wwtp process which speeds up the decomposition of waste in the wastewater being treating) After the wastewater has been disinfected or treated and processed it is then safe to discharge in the Cape Fear River. This is a continual process daily, 365 days a year. A standby generator is on site to ensure a constant power supply during periods of power outages.

The City has 7 Wastewater Lift stations which are in following locations:

1. Machine and Welding on Hwy 301 South

2. Food Lion Whse on Hwy 301 South

3. Eastside on Hwy 55 near I-95

4. Grove Park on Johnson Street

5. Champion on Powell Avenue near Water Tower

6. Wal-mart on Jackson Blvd.

7. 378 Gateway Drive

These lift stations pump wastewater though a force main line to a gravity feed sanitary sewer which is then distributed to the plant for treatment.

The Waste Water Treatment Plant has a fully certified lab that test all parameters to ensure water quality.

We invite anyone who wishes to see how their wastewater is processed to come by and see our facility. A reveservation can be made for guided tours for school or civic groups by calling us at 910-892-2935.
