Harnett County, North Carolina - Relocation information for the Harnett County Area

Voting Information and Elections

Any resident of Dunn who will be 18 years of age prior to the next election may register to vote. You need to also have lived in North Carolina for 30 days and a resident of the City of Dunn 25 days immediately preceding the election and be a United States citizen. Anyone who wishes to vote must be registered. Registration is allowed at all times except 25 days prior to an election. Harnett County Board of Elections conducts elections for the City of Dunn.

The Board of Elections provides mail-in voter registration. Voter registration is permanent unless you change your address, change your name, or fail to at least every four years.

Your residence for voting purposes is in the community in which you permanently reside. Polling places in Dunn are determined by the Harnett County Board of Elections.

The City is divided into six wards for voting purposes and a council member is elected from each of these wards plus an elected Mayor, who is elected at-large. Thus, the Dunn City Council consists of six elected persons plus an elected Mayor. You elect one council member from your district every four years and the Mayor is elected at large every four years.

No person shall be eligible to be a candidate or be elected as mayor or as a member of the city council, or to serve in such capacity, unless he/she is a resident and a qualified voter of the city 25 days prior to an election.
