Our SPRING SIGNUPS begin February 1st and run for approximately one month. Spring signups include youth baseball, girls fast pitch softball, instructional league baseball and Tball.
|Q||When are signups for Indoor Soccer?|
INDOOR SOCCER signups begin February 1st and last only for 3 weeks. Currently, we only have 3 leagues for Indoor Soccer 8U (ages 7-8), 10U (ages 9-10), and 13U (ages 11-13).
|Q||My child is only 7, can he play Indoor Soccer?|
|A||As with most of our sports, a child can play up in a league but they cannot play down. This means that your 7 year old can play in the 10U Indoor Soccer league with the 8, 9 & 10 year olds, but your 11 year old could not.|
|Q||When are signups for Football? Cheerleading? Outdoor Soccer?|
Our FALL SIGNUPS begin July 1st and run for approximately one month. The Fall signups include football, cheerleading and outdoor soccer.
|Q||When are signups for youth basketball?|
|A||Our WINTER SIGNUPS begin November 1 and run for approximately one month. The Winter sports include coed instructional basketball, boys and girls pee wee baksetball leagues, and boys and girls midget basketball leagues.|
|Q||How much is the registration fee for each sport?|
The registration fee for each sport is $20.00 for in-town residents (anyone that lives in the city limits and/or who pays city taxes) or $60.00 for out-of-town residents (anyone that lives out-side the city limits or who does not pay city taxes.) In-town residents much show proof such as a City Water Bill.
|Q||At what age can my child begin playing sports?|
In baseball, we have a Tball league for 4 year olds and under and an Instructional (A) League for 5 & 6 year olds.
In soccer, we have a league for 4 year olds and under as well as a league for 6 year olds and under.
For basketball, we recommend waiting until they are 5 because most 4 year olds and younger are not able to dribble the ball.
As with any sport a younger child can play in an older league but an older child cannot play down in a younger league. That is where the "league age" comes in. To understand what "league age" is see the "league age" question.
|Q||What does league age mean?|
League age is the age your child will be on a certain date. There is a specific date for each sport.
For the Spring sport of baseball (including instructional league and tball), the league age is the age your child will be on May 1st.
For the Spring sport of softball, the league age is the age your child will be on January 1st.
For the Spring sport of indoor soccer, the league age is the age your child will be on April 1st.
For the Fall sports of soccer, football and cheerleading, the league age is the age your child will be on November 1st.
For the Winter sport of basketball, the league age is the age your child will be on January 1st.
|Q||I have several children of different ages so they will all be on different teams. I need my child placed on a team with a neighbor for carpooling. What do I need to do?|
For the younger leagues, placing children with their friends is suggested especially if it is their first time playing. This will give them someone on the team they know and will make the experience more enjoyable for them.
At the bottom of the registration form, there is a space provided to list the names of children you'd like your child to be placed with on a team. You also need to list any siblings that will be on the same team. In the older leagues, the teams are drafted. For this reason, we cannot guarantee requested children can be placed together unless they are siblings.
|Q||I own a business and want to sponsor a ball team. What do I need to do?|
|A||We are always looking for new sponsors for our ball teams. It is a great form of advertisement because the children wear their shirts long after the season is over. To sponsor a team call the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976 for prices as they vary with each sport. As a sponsor you will be given a plaque with a team photo to display in your business as a Thank You for your support.|
|Q||How can I purchase a banner to hang on the ball field fence at the Parks?|
The Dunn Area Boosters sell the banners as a fundraiser. The Dunn Area Boosters are a big supporter of the Recreation Department and have helped to make improvements to the parks were Recreation budget funds were not available. The Booster Club paid to put up the vinyl fence that is at Tart Park; they also built the press boxes for the girls’ field and the junior league field. They purchased the outfield fence on the girls’ field and also purchased the naming rights to the Wellness/Fitness room in the Dr. P.K. Vyas M.D. Recreation Center, which in turn has helped to build that facility, among other things.
To help support the Booster Club by purchasing a banner you can contact the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976 and someone can put you in contact with a Booster Club member.
|Q||I've noticed the bricks with names on them in front of the P.K. Vyas Recreation Center. What are they for and how can I get one?|
The bricks are part of a fundraiser to help in the cost of building the Recreation Center. Businesses or individuals can purchase a brick for $1,000, which can be set up under a payment plan. For more information or to purchase a brick contact the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976.
