QWhen are sign-ups for youth baseball? girls fast-pitch softball? instructional league baseball? T-Ball?
A

Our SPRING SIGN-UPS begins February 1st and run for approximately one month. These sign-ups include youth baseball, girls fast-pitch softball, instructional league baseball and T-Ball.

QWhen are sign-ups for in-door soccer?
A

IN-DOOR SOCCER sign-ups begins February 1st and last only for 3 weeks. As of now we only have 2 leagues for the in-door soccer and they are 10u (8, 9 & 10 year olds) and 12u (11 & 12 year olds)

QMy child is only 7, can he play in-door soccer?
AAs with most of our sports a child can play up in a league but they cannot play down. This means that your 7 year old can play with the 8, 9 & 10 year olds but your 11 year old could not.

QWhen are sign-ups for football? cheerleading? out-door soccer?
A

Our FALL SIGN-UPS begins July 1st and run for approximately one month. These sign-ups include football, cheerleading and out-door soccer.

QWhen are sign-ups for youth basketball?
AOur WINTER SIGN-UPS begins November 1 and run for approximately one month. These sign-ups include instructional league basketball, boys pee-wee and midget and girls pee-wee and midget.

QHow much is the registration fee for each sport?
A

The registration fee for each sport is $15.00 for in-town residents (anyone that lives in the city limits and/or who pays city taxes) or $30.00 for out-of-town residents (anyone that lives out-side the city limits or who does not pay city taxes.)

QAt what age can my child begin playing sports?
A

We recommend beginning T-ball at age 3, soccer at age 4 and basketball at age 5. However it is up to you as a parent if you feel your child is mature enough to start any of these sports at an earlier age. We just caution that your child will be playing with children 6 years of age in T-ball and soccer and 7 years of age in basketball.

As with any sport a younger child can play in an older league but an older child cannot play down in a younger league. That is where the "league age" comes in. To understand what "league age" is see the "league age" question.

QWhat does league age mean?
ALeague age is the age your child will be on a certain date. For spring sports (baseball, softball, instructional league and t-ball) the age your child will be on May 1st (indoor soccer) the age your child will be on April 1st. For fall sports (soccer, football and cheerleading) the age your child will be on November 1st. For winter sports (basketball) the age your child will be on January 1st.

QI have several children and they are different ages so they will all be on different teams. I need my child placed on a team with a neighbor for carpooling. What do I need to do?
A

For the younger leagues placing children with their friends is suggested especially if it is their first time playing. This will give them someone on the team that they know and will make the experience more enjoyable for them.

On the registration form there is a place to list the names of children that you want your child placed on a team with. You also need to list any siblings that will be on the same team. However in the older leagues when the teams have to draft then there are no guarantees except for siblings.

QI own a business and want to sponsor a ball team. What do I need to do?
AWe are always looking for new sponsors for our ball teams. It is a great form of advertisement because the children wear their shirts long after the season is over. To sponsor a team call the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976 for prices as they vary with each sport. As a sponsor you will be given a plaque with a team photo to display in your business as a Thank You for your support.

QHow can I purchase a banner to hang on the ball field fence at the Parks?
A

The Dunn Area Boosters sell the banners as a fundraiser. The Dunn Area Boosters are a big supporter of the Recreation Department and have helped to make improvements to the parks were Recreation budget funds were not available. The Booster Club paid to put up the vinyl fence that is at Tart Park; they also built the press boxes for the girls’ field and the junior league field. They purchased the outfield fence on the girls’ field and also purchased the naming rights to the Wellness/Fitness room in the Dr. P.K. Vyas M.D. Recreation Center, which in turn has helped to build that facility, among other things.

To help support the Booster Club by purchasing a banner you can contact the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976 and someone can put you in contact with a Booster Club member.

QI've noticed the bricks with names on them in front of the P.K. Vyas Recreation Center. What are they for and how can I get one?
A

The bricks are part of a fundraiser to help in the cost of building the Recreation Center. Businesses or individuals can purchase a brick for $1,000, which can be set up under a payment plan. For more information or to purchase a brick contact the Recreation Department at (910) 892-2976.
