City of Dunn Animal Control

 

The City of Dunn Animal Control Facility is utilized to house animals in violation of the Dunn City Code and unwanted pets.

No person may enter the kennel area without a shelter employee. The quarantine area is off limits to everyone except shelter employees per the NC Department of Agriculture. We do not allow photos to be taken in the kennel area, but we will happily bring a pet to the reception area for this purpose. 

Hours of operation are as follows. 

Monday- CLOSED 
Tuesday- 8am -12pm
Wednesday 8am-12pm
Thursday- 8am-12pm
Friday- BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

If you have a pet that you must surrender to the shelter, please call 910-892-3777, to make an appointment during our regular hours. There is no charge for this service. You may call and set up a time when we are on duty to meet us at the shelter to surrender your pet(s). Please have any medical history with your pet at the appointment to surrender. If you find a stray dog after hours and cannot hold it until operating hours, please call 910-893-9111 to dispatch an officer to meet you at the shelter. The pens outside are for OFFICER USE ONLY. We DO NOT have an afterhours drop off for any animal. The shelter requires a valid photo ID to surrender or adopt any animal. 

Please leave a message so your call can be returned. Please state your name, address, telephone number, and reason for your call. Calls will be returned in the order of urgency as soon as possible. Please understand we only provide services WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF DUNN. 

Dunn Animal Control Facility encourages the donation of comfort items to animals sheltered here. Providing comfort items helps reduce shelter anxiety, increasing their chances of adoption and making their stay less stressful.

Any donations can be dropped off under the shelter where the outside kennels are.

More About Dunn

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
