The goal of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Dunn Police Department is to investigate, identify, and arrest those who violate the laws of North Carolina and the United States.
The Dunn Police Department's Investigation unit is comprised of a Captain, Sergeant (2), three investigators, Drug Unit, Police K-9, an evidence technician, and a secretary.
CID is responsible for wide variety of specialized functions within the departemnt that include investigation of reported and non-reported criminal activity, and the collection, processing, and storage of physical evidence at crime scenes within the city. These investigations also include interviews of complainants, witnesses, and suspects. Evidence collected is stored by the evidence technician until used in a court proceeding and then ordered released or to be destroyed by the judge. Each investigator is responsible for his or her individual case load, but operate as a team for various special investigations.
The Investigation Division work hours consist of day shift. The day shift begins at 8:00 am and ends at 4:30 pm. There is an Investigator that is on-call each night starting at 4:30 pm until 8:00 am Monday - Thursday and an Investigator on-call from Friday at 4:30 pm until 8:00 am Monday's.
The Drug Unit and Police K-9 work with the Investigations Division. The Drug Unit hours are more relaxed and are not a set standard hours.
The Drug unit works on apprehension and prosecution of street level sales, Drug Dealers and Interdiction. The Drug Unit is also responsible for Prosecution of Land Owners allowing such activity to mannafest on their property by sueing the Land Owners in Civil Court under NCGS Chapter 19 Civil Public Neusance Laws.
The K-9 BOSCO is a German Sheppard. BOSCO is a Patrol/Narcotics K9 and is trained in article search, handler protection, narcotic detection, suspect search, and tracking. BOSCO has been in service with the Dunn Police Department since 1996. BOSCO was trained at Mid-Atlantic Canine and regularly attends in-service training. BOSCO is also certified as a Patrol/Narcotic detection Dog by the United States Police Canine Association. As of 2003 the Dunn Police Department has one Police K9 unit on staff and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. |
