Property Tax

Property taxes are levied on real property, personal property (automobiles, boats, trailers, etc.) and business personal property. Taxes are levied based on owner information as of January 1st of the tax year. Assessed value of property is established by the Harnett County Assessor’s office (910) 893-7520. All real property, business personal property, and personal property that does not have registered license plates on it that is located within the city limits is billed by the Harnett County Tax Department in July of each year and due on September 1. Taxes may be paid (in full or with payments) without penalty until January 5. After January 5th, all unpaid taxes become delinquent and will be subject to advertisement in the local newspaper and forced collection proceedings.

The tax rate for the City of Dunn is $0.50 per $100.00 of assessed value. The City Council established a Downtown Municipal Service District July 1, 2006. The district covers a 28 block area. This area is assessed an additional twelve (12) cents on the city taxes to cover future needs which surpass the typical services provided by the City. More About Dunn

Dunn was originally called "Lucknow" and was renamed in 1873

The city of Dunn was incorporated on February 12, 1887, at which time it was a logging town and a turpentine distilling center. The name honors Bennett Dunn, who supervised the construction of the railway line between Wilson and Fayetteville.
